11 CP: Finish the questions from yesterday and take an open-book quiz over the Bradford reading. Turn in both the questions and the quiz by the end of the class period.

Thursday, September 5

11 CP: Introduce Mary Rowlandson's piece in preparation for tomorrow's substitute. Take the Vocabulary 2 quiz a day early (due to the fact that you will have a sub tomorrow). Pass back papers and handout an early Progress Report. 
​ERWC: Working class period to complete the Chapter 2 & 3 guided reading packet, which is due at the end of the period.

Friday, September 6
Substitute
11 CP: Read Mary Rowlandson's "A Narrative of the Captivity," pages 64-70 and take an open book quiz over the reading. Handout next week's Vocabulary 4 worksheet. This is due at the end of Monday's class period.
ERWC: Read chapter 4 and answer the questions.

Monday, September 9

11 CP: Read Olaudah Equiano's "The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano" (pages 82-89) and take the open book quiz over the reading. Your Vocabulary 4 worksheet is due at the end of the class period.
ERWC: Read chapter 5 and answer the questions. Turn in the question packet for chapters 4 &5 by the end of the period.

Tuesday, September 10
11 CP: Read about the author (pages 104-105), then work on the vocabulary worksheet for our next piece, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," which will be read tomorrow.

ERWC: Pass out Progress Reports and all papers. Review chapters 4 & 5 then read the following article. Discuss the similarities between Winston's job rewriting history and the real example of Kim Jung Un's regime.

11 CP: Students will read Jonathan Edwards' "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," pages 106-111 and will complete a guided reading worksheet. There will be a quiz over the reading on Friday.
ERWC: Read section 1, chapter 6 in 1984 and complete the guided reading questions.

Thursday, September 12
11 CP: Fun Activity involving "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." Don't forget to prepare for the two quizzes tomorrow: Vocabulary 3 quiz and the "Sinners..." quiz.
ERWC: Read section 1, chapter 7 in 1984 and complete the guided reading questions.

Friday, September 13
11 CP: Take last week's Vocabulary 3 quiz. Students will then take the quiz over Jonathan Edwards' sermon, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God." Class work: Complete Next week's Vocabulary 4 worksheet which is due at the end of the period. ​

Wednesday, September 18
 11 CP: Watch the 18 minute video of "The Lottery" and answer the guided reading questions which are due at the end of today's class period.

Thursday, September 19
11 CP: Watch "The Reaping" scene from the movie The Hunger Games and discuss the similarities and differences between the clip and Shirley Jackson's short story, "The Lottery." Then take notes on and discuss the following Prezi presentation on "The Lottery:"

11 CP:  Take the Vocabulary 4 quiz, and a quiz over "The Lottery" then complete next week's Vocabulary 5 worksheet when finished.

Monday, September 23

11 CP: Today students will complete the in-class writing assignment over "The Lottery." Students have one period to write a response to the prompts. The essay is due by the end of the class period. Students may use their books and the notes that they took last Thursday to help them 
ERWC: Take the section 1, Part 3 test

Tuesday, September 24
11 CP: Begin reading "Nathaniel Hawthorne," pages 310-312, and "The Custom House," pages 269-309, then, answer the ten guided reading questions over the material. Students may work in groups of 5 to complete the "Custom House" reading assignment. Read at home for HW.
ERWC: Finish taking the 3-part test. Discuss how issues of today (politicized youth) relate to 1984.

Wednesday, September 25
11 CP: Students will get into their groups from yesterday and review their reading assignment/finish answering the questions from yesterday. Thursday, September 26
11 CP: Read chapter 2 of The Scarlet Letter. Answer the guided reading questions as you read. your questions are due at the beginning of tomorrow's class period. HW: Study for tomorrow's Vocabulary 5 quiz
ERWC: Read section 2, chapter 2 and finish all guided reading questions given thus far for the section. 

Friday, September 27

11 CP: Finish discussing/reviewing chapters 1 an 2, then turn in the questions from yesterday's reading. Take the Vocabulary 5 quiz and S.L. 1 & 2 quiz. When finished, students will work on a Crossword Puzzle to Review Vocabulary Lessons 1-4.
ERWC: Review chapter 2 (which you read on your own yesterday) and discuss the guided reading questions.

Monday, September 30
11 CP: Students will read and discuss an article on "Shame-based Punishment," and watch the following video:
