Monday, January 6
11 CP: Review the first five slides to the American Literary Periods PowerPoint Presentation, then read pages 117-121.
ERWC: Introduce Joseph Campbell's "Hero's Journey." Discuss all 17 stages using a handout and PowerPoint presentation.

Tuesday, January 7
One Hour Delayed Start


11 CP: The class will be divided into groups of 4-6 students. Each group will be assigned one of six paragraphs from Patrick Henry's "Speech to the Virginia Convention" to analyze. Groups will answer eight questions about their paragraph. Students should know the types of persuasive arguments used in their paragraph and be ready to share their findings with their classmates tomorrow during a larger, in-class discussion over the entire essay.
ERWC: Discuss Carl Jung's collective unconscious and his theory regarding archetypes. Review a handout, and view a PowerPoint, and a short video. 

Wednesday, January 8
11 CP: The first twenty minutes of the period will be used to finish yesterday's group activity. Afterwards, students will engage in a class reading of Henry's "Speech to the Virginia Convention" and will share their paragraph analysis with the rest of the class. There will be a quiz over the persuasive techniques used in the literary work tomorrow.
ERWC: Introduce the Monomyth Group Project. Information about it can be found on Google Classroom. Watch me model a presentation, and review the project template and grading rubric. 

Thursday, January 9

11 CP: Take the quiz over the "Speech to the Virginia Convention." Then read the biographical information about Benjamin Franklin on pages 164-165. Next, read Ben Franklin's "The Autobiography" (pages 166-70). Finish by taking an open-book quiz over the reading.
ERWC: Formulate groups of no more than 4. Choose a move to analyze. Fill out the project guide and divide the share of duties.

Friday, January 10

11 CP: Read the excerpt from "Poor Richard's Almanak" (pages 171-172), then take an open-book quiz over Ben Franklin's work. Pass out "The Third Quarter Master Vocabulary List" and complete next week's Vocabulary 11 worksheet.
ERWC: After groups have completed the monomyth map for their movie and have assigned tasks for their project, student may begin working with Chromebooks to complete their projects.

11 CP: Take the Star Reading Renaissance Test. Visit the CAASPP website and review the practice example tests for the SBAC.

11 CP: Read the handout about Christopher McCandless. While reading the article, think about the similarities between McCandless and Thoreau. Watch the following "20/20" documentary video about Christopher McCandless, and discuss how his story is similar to Thoreau's experience on Waldon Pond.
