Grades and Testing
Grades
1. I DO NOT ROUND QUARTER OR SEMESTER GRADES!
2. Quarter grades are calculated by five weighted categories each worth a
percentage of the total grade. The categories are: Homework/Classwork
(23%), Quizzes (23%), Unit Exams (22%), Writing (22%), and Participation
(10%).
3. Semester grades are calculated as follows:
Term A (40%) + Term B (40%) + Final Exam (20%) = Semester grade.
Testing
1. Students will not be given opportunities to re-take tests for a better grade.
It is imperative that they study the first time. I do not give “open book”
or “open note” tests.
2. Students who will be absent the day of a final exam will not be able to
take it in advance of their classmates. I will not compromise the test in
this manner. Instead, students who have “excused” absences may make-
up the exams when they return to school.
3. In some cases, tests will not be returned to students as I may want to
reuse the test another year.
