About Homework

1.  I do not accept late work!
  • Students must have their work ready to turn in at the beginning of class. Students who are tardy to class will not be allowed to turn in the assignment after it has been collected. Disorganized students who have the assignment, but cannot find it before the "last call" will not be allowed to submit it for points later in the period.

2.  Students who have an "excused" absence may make up work which
can be turned in for full credit.
  • It is the student's responsiblility to approach me on the day he/she returns to class about work missed due to an excused absence. This should be done either before class or after class. Failure to approach me about missed assignments may result in an inability to make-up the assignment.
  • Students who will be absent for an extended time due to illness, etc. are encouraged to contact their counselor or teachers to arrange to receive their homework during their absence.
  • Students have as many days as they have missed to make up their assignments. Any assignments not submitted in a timely fashion will be considered "late" and will not be accepted for credit. In addition, any assignments that were given before the absence and not submitted on the day the student returns to class will be considered "late."
  • If a student has knowledge of a test and returns to school the day it is given, the student will be expected to take it with the rest of the class.

3.  Students who "cut" class or who have and "unexcused" absence will
receive a zero for all work due or assigned that day. There will be no
opportunities to make-up this work. Clearing cuts is the responsibility
of the parents (who have three days) and should be handled through
     the attendance office.

4.  Students have a moral obligation to submit their own work. Cheating,
copying, collaborating, fabricating, plagiarizing, and purchasing
assignments will result in automatic failure of the assignment,
referral to the Dean, and possible suspension and/or expulsion from
     the class.
  • In the situation where one student allows another student to "look at" his/her work, both students will receive an "F" on the assignment.
  • in the event that a parent "helps" his/her child to complete an assignment to the point that it is a collaborative effort and not the student's own work, I will notify the parent, give the student a zero on the assignment, and offer the student an opportunity to resubmit the work.
  • All homework/class work should be completed individually unless otherwise specified by the teacher. Students who work together to complete homework assignments without the instructor's consent may be punished by receiving a score of zero.

5.  All major writing assignments must by typed, double-spaced, and
must utilize the proper MLA heading and Times New Roman font, or
it will not be accepted for credit. Late papers will not be accepted
(unless due to an excused absence).

6.  Because I give ample time for students to complete their paper, there
should be no reason why a student fails to submit work due to
"printer problems." Student should have their papers completed and
printed at least one day prior to the due date. Students may not email
me their papers unless I have given permission for them to do so in
advance. Students may not bring me their flash drives in place of
a hard-copy of their paper and expect credit.

7.  Students who do not write their names on their papers or who submit
work that is illegible will not receive credit for the assignment. Home-
work written in pen must be done in standard blue or black ink.

8.  It is the teacher's responsibility to assign, explain, and correct
home-work assignments. It is the student's responsibility to write
down assignments, complete the homework, and submit the work in
     a timely fashion.
  • Please do not ask me to email a week's worth of assignments to you every Monday, or email you every time there is a major exam. This takes the responsibility from the student and inappropriately places it on the teacher.
